No, seriously, it was! I just started to collect some mangas, rather than just anime, so I've been able to raise my level of geekiness to a much higher degree, which makes me way happier than you can possibly imagine. So far I have the first volumes of Cowboy Bebop, Ragnorok, Real Bout High School, and Megatokyo. I'm liking them all so far. Brings me back to the days when I used to read American comics like Spiderman and The Maxx. I also just got the second
Excel Saga DVD. Man, that show is so freeking crazy, but I can't
help but love it. Oddly enough I can't think of a single event or
character in it that makes any sense whatsoever. I like that. Aponce and I are still hammering out some design issues for version
2, since some characters that were cameos in version1 are major ones
this time around. Most notable of these is Dr. Meridian. We still
need a first name.... spambot - March 14, 2003 |
I
love Little Tokyo. It's a neat little corner of Downtown LA that's
become my manga paradise, just about a mile or two from the place where
I was born, too. It's one of the few places around here where
I can find true manga...Not the translated comics that have become more
and more common these days.
I have four stops that I always make whenever I visit Little Tokyo: The bookstore where the prices are still listed in Yen, the anime shop where you can also find model kits and figures, the used bookstore that sells older series cheap, and the mini-market where sodas are only $0.50! It had been months since I visited, but I finally took a long enough break from work to go this week. I had been meaning to go earlier because my local comic book store was taking forever to order any new "How to Draw Manga" books and I was certain I'd find what I was looking for at the Japanese bookstore instead. The store layout was slightly different this time and the used bookstore moved to a completely new location but sure enough, they had "Making Anime" available! I've waited nearly a year for that book to come out and I was glad to finally get it. After that, I made the traditional stop for cheap soda before moving on to the anime store, where I picked up some cheap 400+ page manga magazines that were on the clearance table. All they had were Shoujo magazines, but I didn't care...They're still a great deal, especially compared to the American comics! Overall, it was good trip and it was nice to take the day off from work to relax a bit! Now, if only I could read Japanese fluently...
